Going Intercultural

Teaching another language involves teaching the culture of the target language in order to understand it and interact with the native speakers.

Nowadays many people are using English around the world to communicate with speakers (native or not) of that language whose backgrounds are different. How can we deal with the many cultures involved in this Global English? Many people are talking about a new competence: intercultural.

As teachers, we have a way to help our English language learners to develop this intercultural awareness. To engage them in activities in which they become aware that there are differences among cultures and their people, but those differences are not so different. At the end of the day we are all the same people.

Over the last year, I have been working in a project with a team of teachers of English (all of us in different places: Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela) to produce a resource pack to develop intercultural awareness with a LatinAmerican perspective.

Feel free to visit our
online site and download the InterCultural Resource Pack (ICRP)
use any of the activities, and give us a little feedback in the forum.
